This was the year of our wedding, on 20 May 1995 in Sofia, Bulgaria. In the first months of the year, Greg was visiting Emi in Blagoevgrad, she visited him in Sofia, and they went on three ski trips with friends, during one of which Greg proposed and Emi accepted!

In April we had Bahá’í meetings in the house of Bahá’u’lláh in Edirne in Turkey, and visited Washington D.C., where Emi saw Greg’s house.

We were married in Sofia on 20 May, first in the civil ceremony in the “Ritual Hall”, and then with the Bahá’í ceremony on the top floor of the National Palace of Culture (NDK) followed by a reception with dinner, dancing and music.

For our honeymoon, we travelled to Callaway Gardens in Georgia, attended the graduation ceremony of Greg’s son Ian from the Atlanta International School, visited Greg’s parents in Carmel, California, stopped briefly in Los Angeles to see Greg’s daughter Carrie, then flew to Switzerland for a few mostly cloudy days in the Alps in Wengen, and finally (a bit exhausted) to Rome before returning to Sofia for the final month of Greg’s assignment as the IMF Resident Representative there.

On our return to Sofia in early June, we had our last days in Sofia before Greg had to return to the IMF headquarters in Washington to take up a new role as a senior staff member in the IMF Institute. He organized a farewell garden party at the IMF residence in Boyana attended by his replacement as the IMF Resident Representative, some dignitaries, and Bahá’í friends.

On our way back to Washington we took some vacation and stopped in Paris.

From Paris we flew to California where we visited with Greg’s parents.

In August we began our settling-in to Greg’s home in Washington, D.C.

In October, Greg had his first travel assignment in his new position in the IMF Institute, to conduct a course for mid-career officials in Bulgaria. This gave us a chance to visit friends and family there.

In November, Emi’s brother Georgi accompanied us back to Washington via London, and we enjoyed an excursion to New York with Emi’s cousin Mitko.
