In April we went for a short visit to the Bahá’í World Center in Haifa, Israel.

In Bulgaria, Mina celebrated her birthday in our village house in Krupnik in March, we went with friends from Sofia on a horseback riding expedition in May and had a farewell gathering of the twins’ school class. In June, Joyce and Mina sang at an outdoor festival, the kids performed in a concert, and we enjoyed a nice walk in the mountains near Devin and at springs near Bankso with Greg’s brother Arthur.

In July we went to California with Emi’s cousin Milen. We stopped first in Oakland to visit with Greg’s daughter Carrie and her twins Cami and Mica. From our rented house in Pebble Beach, we could walk to the nearby beach. Emi’s cousin Mitko joined us for a time, and Greg’s son Ian and grandson Gabe came to visit.

We then visited Yosemite National Park. The view of Half Dome is an obligatory stop on the way to Tuolumne Meadows, where we enjoyed walks in the area. We then hiked to May Lake, with its evening views from the ridge overlooking the May Lake camp. Gregory, Emi and Milen made it to the top of nearby 10,850 ft. (3,300 meter) Mt. Hoffman, where they found a curious marmot. Finally, on leaving Yosemite, we had a glimpse of Yosemite Valley.

Mom got a hug at Moss Landing near Monterey, and we visited to Greg’s daughter Carrie and her girls Mica and Cami in Oakland.

In August we took a road trip to visit national parks, starting in Las Vegas. There was a herd of buffalo outside Zion National Park in Utah, and Bryce Canyon National Park was spectacular. Driving the wide open spaces of the Southwest was a wonderful experience, as was seeing the Grand Canyon.

While we were travelling, Emi’s mother Lubovka celebrated her 70th birthday with relatives and friends (photos from Emi’s sister-in-law).

Back in Bulgaria in August, we went with friends on an outing to the Rila Seven Lakes, had some seaside vacation at Elenite on the Black Sea Coast north of Burgas in September, and stopped in Tervel on the way back to visit Bahá’í friends. On the first day of school, Mina greeted her teacher and the twins started their new adventure at the Mathematics High School, where they were enrolled in a special program for younger children. Joyce wore a beautiful dress at a relative’s wedding, and we adopted a new dog, Liska, to keep us company in the village after Blackie passed away.

In November, we visited Vlas on the Black Sea Coast, where we had bought a vacation apartment, and went for a walk in the fields below Krupnik.

In December, the twins celebrated their birthday with their classmates (both last year’s and from their new school), and Emi’s parents celebrated their 50th Anniversary!

An interview with Greg was included in a film by Leyla and Ryan Haidarian Beyond King of the Mountain published in December.
